What is Pilates?
Pilates is a form of dynamic stabilisation retraining that reconditions the body from the central core. This helps prevent recurrence of and treat postural, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.
Injuries can be caused by imbalances in the body and habitual patterns of movement/postures. Pilates exercises can correct and re-educate the body to prevent recurrence of these problems.
Pilates is a safe, sensible and low impact way to exercise and strengthen the whole body. It emphasises the importance of controlled movement exercises by maintaining a central core of stability in the lumbo-pelvic region, while carrying out strength, mobility and stretching exercises. The modified Pilates exercises taught at Pure Physio Clinic are based on the methods and teachings of Joseph Pilates.
Pilates can be practised by anyone of any age in any state of physical fitness
